The central government on Thursday issued a notification of appointment of three new judges in the Supreme Court, which was approved by President Draupadi Murmu a day earlier. This process was completed after the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on 26 May. The newly appointed judges are- Karnataka High Court Chief Justice N.V. Anjaria, Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Bombay High Court Judge A.S. Chandurkar. His oath on Friday morning, Chief Justice of India Bhushan R.K. Will be provided by Gawai.
The Law Ministry issued this notification on Thursday afternoon, in which these appointments were confirmed. Announcing this on the social media platform X, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, “Using the powers provided by the Constitution of India, the President has appointed these three judges in consultation with the Chief Justice.” These appointments will increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court to 34, which is close to the approved number.
The collegium took into account his experience, fairness and legal expertise while recommending these names. This step is considered important towards strengthening the judicial system and reducing the burden of pending cases. These appointments expect further improvement in the efficiency of the Supreme Court, as it is the highest judicial institution in the country, which takes a final decision in constitutional and legal matters.
This appointment has been done at a time when President Murmu recently raised 14 questions against a Supreme Court verdict, which was said to take a time -bound decision on the state bills.
