A special court in Mumbai has refused to grant bail to gangster Chhota Rajan in the 2005 weapon seizure case. The court said that the crime is of serious nature. Special Judge AM Patil also refused to accept Rajan’s argument of delay in the trial in his order of May 28.
The court said, “The current case is of serious nature. The prosecution has already questioned a total of 45 witnesses and according to the prosecution, the case is likely to be completed soon.” The court said that Rajan is not entitled to bail in the current case. In 2005, the police seized 34 revolvers, three pistols, a silencer and 1283 live cartridges, which were to be used by Rajan’s operatives as part of the crime syndicate. The prosecution claims that weapons were imported by Rajan’s close aide Bharat Nepali.
Rajan was booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, Customs Act and Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act (MCOCA). Rajan said in his bail plea that he was implicated in a case without any evidence and has been in judicial custody since his arrest in 2015. Rajan, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi, also cited a delay in the case in the case.
