New Delhi. There is a lot of air pollution in the country’s capital Delhi and surrounding areas. To reduce this pollution, the Delhi government had written a letter to the Central Government demanding artificial rain, but this does not seem possible. Central Pollution Control Board i.e. CPCB has clearly said that it is not possible to make artificial rain in Delhi. According to Hindi newspaper Amar Ujala, CPCB has said that there is not enough moisture in the air of Delhi. Also, due to western disturbance, clouds are not visible in the sky right now. In such a situation, cloud seeding cannot be done for artificial rain.
CPCB has said that there will be a lot of expenditure in creating artificial rain in Delhi by cloud seeding. If artificial rain is made in Delhi, it is estimated to cost Rs 3 crore for an area of 100 square kilometers. On November 8, the team of IIT Kanpur had given a presentation to the Delhi government for artificial rain in Delhi. IIT Kanpur had earlier successfully used cloud seeding to generate artificial rain in 2017. In such a situation, Delhi Government Minister Gopal Rai had written a letter to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav seeking his help for artificial rain in the capital. Now, since CPCB has made it clear that the weather of Delhi is not suitable for artificial rain, the only way to get rid of pollution in Delhi is to increase the speed of the wind.
There is already a lot of pollution in and around Delhi before Diwali. The air quality index had crossed 500 in the middle. Due to air pollution, there is a blanket of smog in and around Delhi. Air pollution starts increasing in Delhi every year with the onset of winter. Stubble is burnt in the fields of farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Western UP. Also, vehicles running on diesel from other states come to Delhi. Both of them have a big role in increasing pollution in the capital and surrounding areas.
