New Delhi. Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in February 2025. It is believed that the Election Commission may announce the dates of Delhi Assembly elections on January 7 or 8. There are 70 assembly seats in Delhi. That means for majority it is necessary to win 36 seats. In the year 2020, the Delhi Assembly elections were won unilaterally by Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party. In the last Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal’s party had won 62 seats. Whereas, BJP had won 8 seats. No Congress candidate was selected. Earlier, in the results of 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party had unilaterally won 67 seats. Whereas, BJP had secured only 3 seats.

Earlier in 2013 also, Delhi Assembly elections were held. Then Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party had got 28 seats. BJP had emerged as the largest party by winning 32 seats. Congress had won only 8 seats in the 8 Delhi Assembly elections. Arvind Kejriwal was supported from outside by Congress at that time and Aam Aadmi Party formed the government in Delhi, but the government formed on 28 December 2013 fell after 49 days with the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal on 14 February 2014. After this, there was President’s rule in Delhi for 1 year and then assembly elections were held in 2015.

Arvind Kejriwal now wants to form the government in Delhi with majority for the third consecutive time, but this time there is a big challenge before Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party. On one hand, BJP has opened a front against his government. PM Narendra Modi has called Aam Aadmi Party a ‘disaster’. At the same time, Congress, which has been Arvind Kejriwal’s ally till now, is also making progress. Senior leaders like Kailash Gehlot have also left Arvind Kejriwal and joined BJP. People associated with Aam Aadmi Party, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, are accused of alleged liquor scam. At the same time, BJP has surrounded Arvind Kejriwal by taking the name of Sheeshmahal. BJP and Congress are also making issues of cleaning of Yamuna, heaps of garbage and the plight of roads in many areas of Delhi. At the same time, Arvind Kejriwal has tried to maintain the atmosphere in his favor by waiving off wrong water bills, announcing women’s respect scheme and Sanjeevani scheme. On the other hand, Congress is also going to announce 5 guarantees. In which she can also promise to give Rs 3100 to women every month. BJP is saying that if it wins, it will continue to provide free travel facilities to women along with free electricity and water. Apart from this, BJP can also announce in its manifesto to give funds every month for women and elderly people.
