ASP chief Chandra Shekhar Azad announced on the Waqf Amendment Bill, said "Will go to court, protest"

After the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) chief Chandra Shekhar Azad said on Thursday that he would go to court and protest against it. “Yesterday, the parties which used to talk about Muslim reservation and talk about bringing Muslims into the mainstream, those parties cheated Muslims and supported the bill … We will go to court and protest …”

Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced a proposal to consider the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Addressing the upper house of Sansad, Rijiju cited the report of the Sachar Samiti, recommending that it was recommended that they should be confirmed to include the Central Waqf Council and the State Waqf Board. He informed the House about the number of Waqf properties and said that the Sachar Committee had estimated an income of Rs 12,000 from 4.9 lakh properties in 2006.

“Today, there are 8.72 lakh Waqf properties. In 2006, if the Sachar Committee had estimated an earning of Rs 12,000 crore from 4.9 lakh Waqf properties, then you can imagine how much income will be earning now from these properties. The Sachar Committee has also recommended that the Central Waqf Council and the State Waqf Board should be composed to make them a blessing. Also recommended to take important steps for.

Appealing to the Congress and allies to support the Waqf Amendment Bill, Rijiju said that all the recommendations made by the previous committees have been included in the new revised Bill.

The Lok Sabha passed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 after the marathon and hot debate in the early hours of Thursday. During this debate, members of the India Block strongly opposed the law, while the BJP and its allies supported it strongly that this would bring transparency and increase the efficiency of Waqf boards.

The House remained seated for more than midnight to pass the law. Speaker Om Birla later announced the result of the division. He said, “Under reform, yes 288, no 232. The majority is in favor of the proposal.”
