On Wednesday, two more people have died here with the flood situation in Assam becoming very serious, while the number of people affected in 21 districts has increased to about 6.8 lakhs. This information was given in an official bulletin.
Nine rivers, including Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger mark, while the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) at Guwahati has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at different places in the state.
RMC said that there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in Dhubri, Dakshin Salmara-Mankachar, Gwalpara and Kokrajhar and lightning at a speed of 30-40 kmph.
Road, rail and boat services were affected in many parts of the state. Bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) states that there have been two deaths in Nagaon and Cachar districts. A person’s disappearance is reported in Cachar.
Along with these casualties, the number of people who died in floods and landslides this year has reached 19.
In total 66 revenue areas and 1,494 villages in 21 districts, a total of 6,79,423 people are affected by floods, while the number of affected people in 21 districts on Tuesday was more than 6.5 lakhs.
The maximum number of 2,59,601 people are affected in Sri Bhumi, followed by 1,72,439 people in Halakandi and 1,02,716 people in Nagaon. There are a total of 190 relief camps for the flood affected people in the state, providing shelter to 39,746 displaced people.
