New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a big announcement on Wednesday. The state government has decided to impose a complete ban on serving and eating beef in restaurants, hotels and public places. This decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting, in which amendments were agreed to make the existing law more stringent. Chief Minister Sarma told in a press conference held in Guwahati that there is already a law in Assam regarding the consumption of beef, but there were some shortcomings in it. “The existing law is stringent, but till now there was no ban on serving beef in restaurants, hotels and religious or social gatherings,” he said. “We have decided to impose a complete ban on serving and eating beef in these public places.”

Other major decisions taken in the cabinet meeting

Sarma also made it clear that under the new provisions, strict action will be taken against those who violate these rules. The monitoring mechanism to control beef consumption will also be strengthened under the law. Chief Minister Sarma said that it has also been decided to widen the road connecting Guwahati’s popular Gopinath Bordoloi Airport to the city from four lanes to six lanes. This project will be implemented keeping in mind the convenience of passengers and increasing traffic demand.

Along with this, the Assam Cabinet will be expanded on December 7. On this day, some new ministers will be sworn in, which will further speed up the state administrative work.

Big infrastructure projects planned in Assam

Referring to his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital Delhi, the Chief Minister said that he has proposed to approve projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore for the state.
