New Delhi. During the Nirvana Festival of the Jain community in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, 5 people have died and many others were injured due to the collapse of 65 feet high wooden platform. Taking cognizance of this painful accident, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to the concerned officials for speedy and rescue operations and for proper treatment of the injured. At the same time, CM has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. The biggest question after the accident is how the stage was broken and whether permission was taken for such a big event?

DM of Baghpat Asmita Lal said that permission was taken from the district administration by the people of Jain community to organize this program. Nirvana Festival was being celebrated in the grounds of Shri Digambar Jain Degree College of Baraut Tehsil. This program is organized every year. A 65 feet elevation has been installed here, in which the statue of Lord Adinath is seated. Wooden stairs were made to climb it. During the program, a large number of devotees started climbing above the stairs to offer laddus to the idol of Lord Adinath, when the stairs were broken and the stage was filled.

According to the District Magistrate, so far 5 people have been confirmed in this incident while 40 people were injured, of which 20 were sent home after first aid while 20 people have been admitted to the hospital. The situation worsened due to a stampede situation in the scaffolding there. SP Arpit Vijayvargiya informed that this program is being organized for the last 25-30 years. A thorough investigation will be conducted to find out the reasons behind this accident. DM and SP also went to the hospital to know the condition of the injured.
