Bear climbed on a tree for food
A bear died of electric current in Mitrapur Tela Sahi village located under the Nilgiri police border of Balasore district of Odisha. The incident stirred the entire village. The accident occurred when the bear entered the village in search of food from the forest. His eyes fell on Mahua’s flowers and he was trying to climb a tree to break them. However, while climbing the tree, he accidentally collided with 33 KV power transformer. Due to the current, the bear suffered a strong electric shock and died on the spot.
Bear assigned to forest department
In the morning, when the villagers saw the body of the bear on the transformer, they informed the electricity department and the forest department. The electricity department team reached the spot and removed the bear’s body from the transformer. The body was then handed over to the forest department officials. The forest department has now started investigating the matter.
Under what circumstances did the bear die?
Forest department officials are trying to find out in the investigation under what circumstances the bear died. For example, what caused a bear transformer contact, was there any lapse about the possible threats for safety for animals and how such accidents can be prevented in future. The forest department is also seeing whether the local people can be made more aware about being careful in such areas, adjacent to the forests. Due to transformer, such accidents have also happened earlier.
