Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced an increase of Rs 9,000 in the monthly pension of retired journalists under the ‘Bihar Journalist Samman’ scheme.
Now all the eligible retired journalists registered in the Bihar government will be given a pension of Rs 15,000 per month instead of Rs 6,000. This decision has been taken in Bihar before the assembly elections to be held later this year.
Chief Minister Kumar posted on the social media platform ‘X’ on Saturday, “I am happy to say that now the department has been instructed to provide a pension amount of Rs 15 thousand instead of six thousand rupees to all eligible journalists under the Bihar Journalist Samman Pension Scheme.”
He said, “Also, in the event of the death of journalists receiving pension under Bihar Journalist Samman Pension Scheme, his dependent spouse has been instructed to give a pension amount of Rs 10,000 instead of three thousand rupees per month.”
He said, “Journalists have an important role in democracy. He is the fourth pillar of democracy and has an important role in social development. We are taking care of the facilities of journalists from the beginning so that they can be impartial and do their journalism and after retirement, they can live their lives in a respectable manner.
