17 people were killed in a fire in a building on Sunday morning in Gulzar Hauz area near Charminar in Hyderabad. The incident took place around 6:30 am when the fire department was informed.
According to fire officials, many people present in the building were found unconscious who were sent to the hospital. 11 fire engines controlled the fire in about two hours.
The entrance of the building was quite narrow. Fire Service DG Y. Nagi Reddy said that the building had only one main gate, which was just 2 meters and the ladder leading to the first floor was only 1 meter wide. For this reason, people could not get out on time and the accident became serious.
People who lost their lives in the accident are said to be related to the same family, who were living in this building for the last 125 years. AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi reached the spot and took stock of the situation and met the family.
President Murmu, PM Modi and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy have expressed grief over the incident and directed the officials to expedite immediate relief and rescue operations.
