Big blow to TMC after Kolkata rape murder case, Rajya Sabha MP Jawahar Sarkar resigns, targets Mamata

New Delhi. Public outrage is being seen in entire West Bengal after the brutality with a junior doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. After this incident, questions are being raised on the Trinamool Congress government. Meanwhile, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Jawahar Sarkar has resigned from his post. He informed about this by writing a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and also announced it on the social media platform ‘X’.

Allegations against Mamta Banerjee

Jawahar Sarkar wrote in his resignation letter that he expected Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take quick and strict action on this serious incident. He said, “It was expected that you would take strict action like the old Mamata Banerjee, but it did not happen. You did not take any concrete steps on time and by the time you took any decision, it was too late.”

Jawahar Sarkar expressed concern over the instability and public anger in the state due to this incident. He said that if strict action was taken against the guilty doctors and administrative officials in this case in time, normalcy could have been restored in the state. But this did not happen, due to which protests increased in Kolkata and all over West Bengal.

Who is Jawahar Sarkar?

Jawahar Sarkar was earlier an IAS. He has been considered close to the Gandhi family. However, he went to TMC and Mamata Banerjee made Jawahar Sarkar a Rajya Sabha MP. Since then, he has been very active in politics.

Questions were also raised about corruption

Jawahar Sarkar also cited corruption of some TMC leaders as a major reason for his resignation. He said that he was very upset with some party leaders being involved in corruption and no action being taken against them. He clearly said that the domineering attitude of some leaders within the TMC and the government’s failure to take strict action against them is the main reason for the deteriorating situation in the state. He further said, “I think if action had been taken against corrupt doctors and administrative officials in time, the situation in the state would not have deteriorated so much today.”

Announcement of resignation on ‘X’

Jawahar Sarkar wrote in his ‘X’ post, “I am resigning from the post of Rajya Sabha MP because the West Bengal government did not properly handle the spontaneous public movement that arose after the horrific rape-murder at RG Kar Hospital. I will leave politics and stand with the people in this fight for justice. My values remain the same as before.”

Public outrage and protests are not stopping

The RG Kar Medical College incident has shaken the entire West Bengal. Public anger is being expressed on the streets, especially through massive protests taking place in Kolkata.
