In view of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, 26 people were shot dead, the administration has taken a major decision to close several tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley. Most of the people killed were tourists. As a precaution, 48 public parks and gardens located in sensitive areas of the valley have been closed to the general public.
Officials said that keeping in mind the safety of tourists, 48 out of a total of 87 public parks and gardens in Kashmir have been temporarily closed. These sites have been selected under the possibility of possible threat.
Closed tourist places are mainly located in remote areas of Kashmir, and include some new tourist destinations developed in the last decade.
Places for tourists currently banned include popular places like Dushpathri, Cokeranag, Duksum, Synthon Top, Goodbal, Bangas Valley, Marghan Top and Tosamadan.
The doors of many famous Mughal guards in South Kashmir have also been closed for tourists. Although no formal order has been issued by the administration in this regard so far, entry at these sites at the ground level has been stopped.
According to officials, the security system is being reviewed continuously and more places can be included in the list in the coming days. This step has been taken with the aim of ensuring safety of tourists and preventing any possible danger.
