New Delhi. Taking an important step for the workers across the country, the Central Government on Thursday announced an increase in the minimum wage rate. Now workers will get minimum wage of Rs 1,035 per day. The government has taken this decision by amending the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA). According to the Labor Ministry statement, the move is aimed at helping workers cope with the rising cost of living.
After this amendment, the minimum wage rate in Zone ‘A’ for laborers engaged in unskilled jobs such as construction, cleaning, loading and unloading will be Rs 783 per day (Rs 20,358 per month).

Which category of workers will get how much minimum wage?
The Labor Ministry has determined wage rates according to different skill levels:
The minimum wage rate for semi-skilled workers will be Rs 868 per day (Rs 22,568 per month). For skilled, clerical and unarmed guards, the rate will be Rs 954 per day (Rs 24,804 per month). The minimum pay rate for highly skilled and armed guards has been set at Rs 1,035 per day (Rs 26,910 per month).
The new wage rates will be effective from October 1, 2024. It is noteworthy that the last revision in minimum wage rates was done in April 2024.
