New Delhi. A big good news has emerged for the farmers. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of all essential Rabi crops for the marketing year 2025-26. After the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced this important decision. With this step of the government, millions of farmers across the country are expected to get better and remunerative prices for their produce, which will improve their economic condition.
Highest increase for rapeseed and mustard
According to ANI report, while announcing the increase in MSP of Rabi crops, the government has made the highest increase of Rs 300 per quintal for rapeseed and mustard. Along with this, the MSP of lentils has been increased by Rs 275 per quintal. Among other Rabi crops, prices have been increased by Rs 210 for gram, Rs 150 for wheat, Rs 140 for safflower and Rs 130 per quintal for barley. This step has been taken with the aim of providing fair prices to the farmers for their crops and making farming more profitable.

In line with the announcement of the Union Budget 2018-19
This MSP increase is in line with the promise made in the Union Budget 2018-19, in which it was announced to fix the MSP of all crops at a level of at least 1.5 times the cost of production. The objective of this policy is to provide farmers with more profits than their costs and make farming a profitable business.
Crop diversification will get a boost
According to data released by the government, the expected margin on all-India weighted average cost of production is 105 per cent for wheat, while it is 98 per cent for rapeseed and mustard, 89 per cent for lentil, 60 per cent for gram and barley, and 60 per cent for safflower. For this it is 50 percent. This increased MSP will not only provide fair price to the farmers but will also encourage crop diversification.
