The matter of the ongoing farmers’ movement at Shambhu border is in the Supreme Court and a hearing in this matter is also to be held today. A petition was filed in the court regarding this matter in which a demand has been made to open all the highways including Shambhu Border and remove the protesters from the highway. The PIL that has been filed in the Supreme Court has sought instructions to immediately remove the blockage on national and state highways in Punjab. The petition states that farmers and farmer unions have illegally encroached and blocked the roads at various places in the state.

Farmers say that during the protest on December 8, the police fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets, in which 6-8 farmers were injured and one injured has been referred to PGI, Chandigarh.
Farmers’ second attempt to march to Delhi also fails
The second attempt by farmers to march towards Delhi from Shambhu border on foot was also foiled on Sunday. As soon as a group of 101 farmers from Punjab left for Delhi on foot, the security forces deployed on the Haryana border first welcomed the farmers and asked them for tea and biscuits. Then the police showered flowers on the farmers and asked them to return. Appealed. When the farmers did not agree, the police threw tear gas shells. During this, four farmers were injured, after which the farmers postponed the decision to march to Delhi till further orders and went back.
