Former MLA Anant Singh, desired in a case related to firing in Mokama area of Bihar, surrendered before a flood court on Friday, after which he was sent to jail.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “Former MLA Singh surrendered before the court, after which he was sent to Beur Jail.” He said that the police have registered three FIRs in connection with the firing incident in Mokama on the outskirts of Patna.
The firing incident took place on Wednesday evening, when Singh’s convoy was targeted in Mokama. The Sonu-Monu gang allegedly fired indiscriminately on Singh’s convoy. Singh’s supporters also opened fire. Eyewitnesses claimed 60 to 70 bullets between the two sides. However, police say 16–17 bullets were fired during the incident. Singh was not harmed in this incident. Police have arrested two suspects-Sonu and Roshan in connection with the firing incident.
According to the police, the Sonu-Monu gang on Friday targeted Mukesh Singh, a resident of Hamza village of Panchmahal police station area of Mokama and former aide of the gang, who had allegedly sought help from Anant Singh.
Kumar said, “Three cartridges have been recovered from the spot. The firing took place in front of Mukesh Singh’s house. Senior officials are on the spot and investigation is on. ”
Anant Singh, popularly known as ‘Chhote Sarkar’, is a Bahubali leader who has represented Mokama Assembly seat in Bihar several times. Neelam Devi, his wife and current MLA of Mokama, recently joined the Janata Dal-United (JDU) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, leaving the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Singh was disqualified from the membership of the Assembly in June 2020 after being convicted in the case involving the AK-47 rifle, ammunition and two grenades from his ancestral residence in 2018. However, in August 2024, the Patna High Court acquitted Singh in the case and directed his immediate release from jail.
