Bill related to one country, one election will come in Lok Sabha.
Big news related to ‘One Country One Election’ or ‘One Nation One Election’ is coming out from the winter session of Parliament. Information has come to light that tomorrow i.e. Tuesday, 17 December 2024, a bill related to One Nation One Election will be introduced in the lower house Lok Sabha. Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal will introduce this bill. Let us tell you that One Nation One Election is one of the most important election promises of the Modi government.
Simultaneous elections of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies
The Constitution Amendment Bill to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country is likely to be introduced in Parliament on Tuesday. If PTI sources are to be believed, it can be sent to the joint committee of both the houses. The PM Modi-led Union Cabinet last week decided to hold elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies simultaneously, but no decision has been taken yet on how the local body elections will be conducted.
The session will end on December 20
The bill related to One Nation One Election was listed as the agenda of business of the House on 16 December. However, now it will now be presented in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. According to the information, the Modi government has distributed copies of the bill to the MPs so that they can study it. Let us tell you that the winter session of Parliament is ending on 20th December. Therefore, the government has only 4 days left to present this bill related to One Nation One Election.
Opposition parties in protest
Various opposition parties including DMK, Trinamool Congress have expressed concerns about one nation, one election. Opposition parties argue that this rule could disrupt the federal structure of the country, weaken regional parties and concentrate power at the centre. At the same time, the ruling party says that the step of One Nation One Election will be cost-effective and governance-friendly and it is the need of the hour.
