The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) raided the warehouses of Amazon and Flipkart here and seized thousands of products which did not have a proper quality certificate. The government gave this information on Thursday.
According to the official statement, in the 15 -hour action in the warehouse of Amazon Sellers Private Limited in Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, BIS officials seized more than 3,500 electrical products including geyser and food mixer, which costs around Rs 70 lakh.
It said, raids were also conducted in the warehouse of Instacart Services, a subsidiary of Flipkart. From there, 590 pairs ‘Sports Footwear’ were seized on which did not have the necessary manufacturing signs. Their price has been estimated at around six lakh rupees.
This action is part of the broad nationwide campaign being run by BIS to implement quality standards. Last month, similar raids were conducted at many places including Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Lucknow and Sriperumbudur.
The statement said that these raids are important to ensure consumer safety and maintain product quality standards.
Currently, 769 product categories require compulsory certification from Indian regulations. Selling or distributing these items without appropriate license may impose legal punishment, including possible imprisonment and fine under the 2016 BIS Act.
Amazon and Flipkart have not yet commented on these raids.
