New Delhi. As the Haryana assembly elections are approaching, the heat in the corridors of politics is increasing and a round of sharp statements is also going on. Meanwhile, news has come from sources that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has advised its leader and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh not to make any statement against Olympic wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia. This advice has come when Phogat and Punia have recently joined the Congress and are going to play an important role on behalf of the party in the Haryana elections.
Phogat and Punia joining Congress
Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia announced their joining the Congress on September 6. These are the same wrestlers who led the protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last year, in which they levelled serious allegations of sexual harassment against Singh. After joining the Congress, Phogat said that the BJP supported Brij Bhushan Singh while the Congress stood by the protesting wrestlers when they were struggling on the streets of Delhi. Bajrang Punia also supported Phogat and said that the Congress stood by them in difficult times.
Brij Bhushan’s statement
After Phogat and Punia joined the Congress, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh took a dig and said that these wrestlers earned their name in wrestling, but after joining the Congress, their name will be erased. He said that if these wrestlers think that they will win the assembly elections, then they are wrong. Singh claimed that they will lose even to a small BJP candidate in any assembly seat in Haryana.
Congress gave responsibility
Congress has decided to field Vinesh Phogat from Julana assembly constituency of Haryana. At the same time, Bajrang Punia has been appointed the head of All India Kisan Congress, due to which he will also participate in the election campaign. BJP has forbidden Brijbhushan Sharan Singh from making sharp statements on Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, so that no unnecessary controversy arises in the election environment. BJP believes that such statements can be harmful for the party in the elections.
