New Delhi. In the trends that have emerged so far in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the BJP led Mahayuti alliance has taken a huge lead and has crossed the majority mark. In this bumper victory of the Mahayuti alliance, BJP has emerged as the ‘big brother’. In the trends, BJP alone is leading on 125 seats while Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena is leading on 56 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP is leading on 36 seats. In this way the situation in Maharashtra is almost clear. The grand alliance of BJP is returning to power again but this time the picture of the government will be different from last time.
With BJP emerging as the largest party in Maharashtra, some things are very clear. The first is that this time the CM will be from BJP and possibly by crowning Devendra Fadnavis, BJP can once again hand over the command of Maharashtra to him. At the same time, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will not be able to bargain much with BJP regarding the ministerial post. It is also expected that BJP will keep the post of Speaker of the Assembly with itself instead of giving it to allies. Overall, if seen, this time BJP will play the role of elder brother among its allies in Maharashtra.
Out of the total 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, 145 seats are required for majority, in which the Mahayuti alliance is still leading on 217 seats as per the trends. At the same time, the condition of Congress and its Mahavikas Aghadi alliance is bad. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena is leading in UBT 20, Congress in 19 and Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SCP is leading in only 14 seats. The trends for the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance of Congress are very disappointing, on one hand they were claiming to form the government and now the situation is that all the three parties together are not able to even touch the figure of 100 seats.
