CM Siddaramaiah of Karnataka
A delegation of BJP MLAs and MPs from Bengaluru met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday. BJP MLAs and MPs demanded to allocate more funds in the upcoming budget of the state for the development of the city. The delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka unit president BY Vijayendra and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly demanded an allocation of Rs 150 crore for each assembly constituency of the city. The delegation urged to reconsider the increase in metro fares, allocate funds for the constituencies of first -time MLAs and to conduct the election of Brihad Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) soon.
Budget is going to be presented on 7 March
Siddaramaiah also has the Finance Department. He is scheduled to present the budget for FY 2025-26 on 7 March. This will be his 16th budget. Vijayendra said, “All our MLAs, MPs, Legislative Council members and district presidents met Bangalore and urged to allocate more funds in the budget for the development of their respective constituencies.”
Special budget for the development of Bengaluru
He said that after the meeting, while talking to reporters here, the Chief Minister said that BBMP was allocated Rs 6,000 to 8,000 crore in each budget for the development of Bangalore during being the Chief Minister of BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa and Basavraj Bommai. He said, “No such allocation was made for Bengaluru in the last two budgets, so we request to allocate Rs 6,000 to 8,000 crore for the city of Bengaluru in the upcoming budget.”
Request to reduce metro fare
The state BJP chief said that flyover and other projects are moving at a slow pace, in such a situation, they should prioritize to complete these projects by allocating more money. Vijayendra said that during the meeting with Siddaramaiah, MPs from Bangalore PC Mohan and Tejashwi Surya suggested that the Chief Minister should give necessary instructions to the rent assessment committee to reduce the recently increased metro fare. In response to a question, Vijayendra said that the party will discuss the proposal to divide BBMP as several municipal bodies.
BBMP election should not be postponed
He said, “BBMP elections should not be postponed citing the formation of a large Bengaluru Authority.” In July last year, the large Bangalore Government Bill was sent to the United Striwar Committee headed by Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad from Shivajinagar. The committee on Monday submitted its report to Assembly Speaker UT Khadar. Official sources said that according to the report, the city of IT can be divided into several municipal corporations, which will replace BBMP. (With language input)
