New Delhi. In Vijayapura district of Karnataka, the issue of Waqf Board claiming 1200 acres of agricultural land of farmers is gaining momentum. BJP MP from Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya has written a letter to Jagdambika Pal, chairperson of the JPC formed regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024. He requested that farmers from Vijayapura district be called as witnesses to discuss their land disputes with the Waqf Board.

On the other hand, Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivkumar, while defending his government, accused BJP of politicizing the issue. Deputy CM said that we are not influencing the farmers. He said notices were issued earlier also during BJP rule and we are correcting it. We have instructed the Revenue Department to cancel all the mutations made in RTC. All the land used by the farmers will remain theirs. The government will not let any farmer suffer. This is the government’s decision and we stand by it. BJP is trying to politicize this issue, we will not let this happen.

Let us tell you that recently the Waqf Board has claimed about 1200 acres of agricultural land in Honwada village located in Vijayapura district of Karnataka. Notices have also been issued to some farmers by the Congress government of Karnataka. After which BJP supported the farmers and opposed the claims of Karnataka Government and Waqf Board. Since then, the Karnataka government has been continuously giving its clarification. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah had said that no notice has been issued to the farmers by his government.
