ECI released details of donations received by political parties.
The report of donations received by political parties from the Election Commission of India has been made public. This report has been released regarding donations till March 31, 2024, before the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Election Commission has said in the report that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center has received the maximum donation of more than Rs 2,604.74 crore during the year 2023-24. According to the information, BJP had announced to receive donations of more than Rs 740 crore before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Let us tell you that the donations received from electoral bonds are not included in the donations declared by BJP and Congress. This is because these have to be declared in the party’s annual accounts report and not in the donation statement.
How much donation did Congress receive?
Between 2023 and 2024, the opposition party Congress has received Rs 281.38 crore as donations. Earlier, Congress had said that it would receive donations of more than Rs 146 crore in the year 2018-19. Congress has received donations of more than Rs 150 crore from Prudent Electoral Trust. This is the only trust to donate to Congress. Congress has also received such donations worth Rs 1.38 lakh which includes donations received from other top leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal and Digvijay Singh. Congress has also received many donations with the title ‘Happy Birthday to our leader – JKB’.
Where did BJP get donations from?
According to the information released by the Election Commission, BJP received donations of more than Rs 723 crore from Prudent Electoral Trust during the year 2023-24. At the same time, the party has received donations of more than Rs 127 crore from Triumph Electoral Trust and more than Rs 17 lakh from Inzigartig Electoral Trust. Apart from this, BJP was also a major beneficiary of electoral bonds purchased by big corporate groups like Vedanta, Bharti Airtel, Muthoot, Jindal Group and TVS Motors. BJP received Rs 3 crore from Future Gaming and Hotel Services Private Limited.
How much donation to other parties?
Aam Aadmi Party has received donations of more than Rs 11.06 crore during this period. Marxist Communist Party has received donations of more than Rs 7.64 crore. National People’s Party (NPP) has received donations of more than Rs 14.85 lakh. (input language)
