Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that he should receive the Nobel Prize for Governance in Delhi. The BJP launched a scathing attack on this statement. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva termed 9 July 2025 as ‘ridiculous’, saying that Kejriwal could get awards for ‘corruption, anarchy and disability’. This statement was made by Kejriwal during the release of the Punjabi version of the book ‘Kejriwal Model’ in Chandigarh.
Kejriwal said that despite the obstacles by the Lieutenant Governor, his government did free electricity, water, better schools and hospitals. He claimed that his government stopped corruption and saved public money. At the same time, he accused the current BJP government of ‘stalled’ services in Delhi.
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh questioned what should Kejriwal receive the Nobel Prize for – Bowl Board Scam, Mohalla Clinic, alleged scam in the education sector, pollution in Yamuna or ‘Sheeshamahal’? He said that Kejriwal looted Delhi and the public rejected him. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also described his comment as a character of criticism.
AAP retaliated and asked to focus on the government in Delhi instead of calling the name on the BJP. AAP’s Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj said that BJP should now work, not excuses. The BJP mentioned alleged scams such as Sheeshamahal, liquor policy, and pension schemes during Kejriwal’s tenure. Some netizers also described his comment as ‘ridiculous’ and connected it to the style of Donald Trump.
This controversy is heating up the politics of Delhi, where Kejriwal’s rule model and BJP’s criticisms have intensified the debate.
