Kolkata. The Calcutta High Court has converted to life imprisonment by the death sentence of two convicts of rape and murder of a five -year -old girl. The bench of Justice Debangshu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi at the Calcutta High Court gave the verdict on Wednesday. In the Calcutta High Court, it was told by the state government that Fagun Mandi alias Pui and Ravindra Raith aka Bhaku may improve the girl convicted of rape and murder. The Calcutta High Court, keeping this argument of the West Bengal government, ordered the death sentence of both the convicts to life imprisonment.
In the incident of rape and murder of a five -year -old girl, the trial court sentenced Fagun and Ravindra to death in June 2023. Both appealed against the sentence in the Calcutta High Court. The Calcutta High Court bench, after hearing the verdict, said that it is okay to be punished for life imprisonment keeping in mind the age, social and financial condition and mental state of the two convicts. The Calcutta High Court said that both the convicts will not be released from jail for 60 years from the date of rape and murder of the girl.
The prosecution had accused Fagun Mandi and Ravindra Ruth that both kidnapped a five -year -old girl playing outside the Kali Pooja Pandal and raped her. Crushing the boundary of cruelty, the girl inserted bamboo in a private part and then strangled her to death. Both also hid the body. So that the crime cannot be detected. The Calcutta High Court, while changing the death sentence of both of them in life imprisonment, has also said that the release of them cannot be denied a threat to the society. The West Bengal government told the court that the social and economic condition of both the convicts of rape and murder of the girl is bad. At the same time, the state government also said that they are not educated at all.
