New Delhi. The Union Home Ministry has given important information regarding census and caste census in the country. The government has decided to calculate the population in two phases. Census will start from 1 October 2026 in the first phase in hilly states like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Whereas in the second phase, the census will be started from March 1, 2027 in other parts of the country. This time there will also be a column of caste in the census register and the census staff will also ask everyone his caste. As per the provision of Section 3 of the Census Act 1948, its notification will be published in the official Gazette on 16 June 2025.

The Modi government has recently approved the caste census. In this way, this will be the first time after the independence of the country when people will also be asked their caste during the census. Earlier in the year 1931, the caste -wise census took place. Let us tell you that although a census is done every 10 years in the country, but this time the census is being done after 15 years. Earlier in the year 2011, the census was done. After that the census was to be held in 2021, but it could not happen due to Kovid.

Due to lack of OBC data in the census, the reservation policy remained unclear, due to which there was a demand for caste census in the country for a long time. Now after caste census, it will be known that in which assembly and which Lok Sabha constituency, how many people of which caste live. This can also affect the political scenario. Since the Modi government approved the decision to make caste census, there has been a competition among other opposition parties including RJD to take credit for this.
