New Delhi. The central government employees and pensioners hoped that the Central Government would give the DA and DR that was not received for 18 months at the time of Kovid. Many employee organizations had also demanded from the central government that DA and DR should be stopped at the time of Corona. Now the answer given by Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance in the Lok Sabha on the question asked by MP Anand Bhadoria, will disappoint the central government employees and pensioners. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary has said that in the year 2020, the opposite financial effect was during the Kovid epidemic and the welfare measures taken by the government also affected the treasury. Because of this, it is not possible to give DA and DR stopped at that time. The central government has about 37 lakh employees and 77 lakh pensioners.
The Minister of State for Finance clearly said that the government will not give arrears of DA and DR not given at that time. At the time of Korona epidemic, 34402 crore rupees were saved in the central government treasury due to not giving DA and DR for 18 months. The government was also asked questions about this arrears of DA and DR in February. The Minister of State for Finance said that three installments of DA and DR were freed from 1 January 2020 to 1 January 2021. This decision was taken keeping in mind the economic disruption. Earlier, several employee organizations had reported to the Finance Ministry to provide DA and DR. The government did not say anything on these reports. However, the government had admitted in Parliament that the report was received from the employee organizations.
The central government had stopped 18 months DA and DR from 1 January 2020 to June 2021. Then the central government had to give 11 percent DA of central employees. Earlier in 2024, in the Rajya Sabha, the government had clearly stated that the arrears of DA and DR cannot be given. There is a possibility of response to employee organizations if the DA and DR not stopped by the central government. Employees’ organizations have also launched a big movement on the OPS issue earlier. Due to which the central government had to bring a new pension scheme with NPS named UPS.
