Election held on Supreme Court order
AAP leader Kuldeep Kumar filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a fair election. He requested the court to appoint a retired judge of the High Court as an observer to monitor the election. After this, the Supreme Court appointed retired judge Jayashree Thakur as supervisor, under whose supervision elections were concluded.

Last time there was a dispute
Significantly, there was a dispute in the Chandigarh Mayor elections last year too. The matter reached the Supreme Court. On 20 February 2024, the Supreme Court questioned the conduct of Election Officer Anil Christ and overturned the election result. In fact, Anil Christ had canceled eight AAP-Congress votes, which won the BJP candidate. However, the Supreme Court overturned the decision and declared Kuldeep Kumar of the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress as the mayor.
