Chandigarh has elections for the post of Mayor on 30 January today. Before the election, Sitting Mayor and Aam Aadmi Party leader Kuldeep Kumar has got a big relief from the High Court. The High Court has granted him interim bail. Now they will go to cast their votes. Kuldeep Kumar has been relieved before the election of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor.

Mayor election became interesting

In fact, the Chandigarh Police has registered a case against the current Mayor and ‘AAP’ leader Kuldeep Kumar and his brother -in -law Rahul for corruption. It is alleged that both of them took a bribe of 75 thousand rupees from a person named Ravi in the name of getting the job of a sweeper. After the FIR was registered, the sword of arrest was hanging on him. To avoid arrest, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress alliance mayor Kuldeep Kumar filed a petition in the Punjab-Haryana High Court late at night, which was heard.

Permission to vote sought

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar sought permission from the court to get anticipatory bail and voting during the mayor election to avoid arrest. He had said in the petition that in the event of not getting relief from the arrest, the mayor would not be able to use his vote during the election. In such a situation, the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress alliance votes will be reduced from 20 to 19.

Difficulties of alliance

AAP and Congress have many contenders for Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Since the voting is to be done through the secret ballot, in such a situation if 3 councilors cross voting, then BJP’s vote 19 and Congress-AAP will remain 17 votes. Instead of cross voting, the AAP-Congress game can still deteriorate if the vote is involved by marking the ballot paper. In such a situation, not only mayor, but the difficulties of alliance can increase in the remaining 2 posts.
