A jawan of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of the State Police was killed in the explosion of an explosive equipment installed by Naxalites in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh.
A senior police officer said the incident occurred in Abhujmad area with dense forests on Wednesday evening when security personnel were returning after a major encounter with Maoists.
At least 27 Naxalites, including the banned Indian Communist Party (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70), were killed in an encounter in the forests on the border of Narayanpur and Bijapur districts.
While returning, the police officer said, Ramesh Hemla, a jawan of Bijapur DRG, went to a pressure-activated IED, causing an explosion and died on the spot.
Khotluram Korram, another DRG member, was killed during the encounter on Wednesday. Korram was a resident of Bhatbeda village in Orchha police station area of Narayanpur.
The official said that a wreath ceremony will be organized for the two martyred soldiers at the police line, Narayanpur at 12 noon on Thursday and after that their body will be sent to their ancestral places.
