Suresh Chandrakar, the main accused in the murder of a journalist in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, has been taken into custody by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Hyderabad. A police officer gave this information on Monday.
He told that the accused is a contractor by profession and was absconding after the case of murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar came to light on January 3.
The official said that the SIT formed to investigate the case detained Suresh Chandrakar from Hyderabad late on Sunday night.
He told that his brothers Ritesh Chandrakar and Dinesh Chandrakar and supervisor Mahendra Ramteke have already been arrested in this case.
Police had earlier said that independent journalist Mukesh Chandrakar (33) had gone missing on January 1. His body was found in the septic tank of Suresh Chandrakar’s property in Chattapara colony of Bijapur city on January 3.
A news report exposing alleged corruption in road construction work in Bijapur, which was shown on NDTV on 25 December, is being discussed as the reason behind the murder of Mukesh Chandrakar.
The said construction work was related to contractor Suresh Chandrakar. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma had claimed that Suresh Chandrakar is a Congress leader. However, the opposition party claimed that the accused had recently joined the ruling BJP.
