Why did the judge reprimand Kapil Sibal
A bench of the Supreme Court on Monday reprimanded a lawyer for speaking loudly during arguments in the case of rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, saying, “Are you trying to say your point from the gallery outside the court (room).” A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud objected to the way lawyer Kaushal Bagchi addressed the apex court. Chief Justice Chandrachud sternly told him, “I have been observing your behavior for the last two hours. Do not speak loudly, lower your voice.”
The judge reprimanded the lawyer
The judge said, “You are addressing three judges of the Supreme Court and not the viewers watching the live telecast of the proceedings on YouTube.” The bench was telling the West Bengal government that if the protesting doctors return to their duty by 5 pm on Tuesday, then it should not take any adverse action against them, when Bagchi intervened, after which Justice Chandrachud made this strong remark. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the West Bengal government, assured the apex court that no adverse action would be taken, including punitive transfers. Bagchi intervened when the bench and Sibal were listening to each other’s views on the subject.
Junior doctors against Supreme Court’s order
Let us tell you that the protests are still going on in the case of rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Regarding this, recently the Supreme Court had directed the protesting junior doctors in West Bengal to return to work by 5 pm on Tuesday. But the junior doctors made it clear that they will not obey the order of the Supreme Court and will not return to work despite the court’s instructions. In fact, the protesting junior doctors say that the victim has not yet got justice.
