In Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, heavy rains and cloudburst caused heavy havoc. Many houses were swept away in this disaster in the Yamunotri valley, damage to roads and bridges, and many are missing. According to reports, the death of four people has been confirmed so far, while dozens are missing. Especially in Khardi and Manda villages, the scene of destruction was the most terrible. Many houses were buried in debris, while some were completely swept away. SDRF and district administration teams have been engaged in relief and rescue operations since night, but due to bad weather and debris, there are problems in rescue operations.
At around 1:30 pm, the cloud was cracked over Manda Danda, causing huge amount of water and debris together. People were sleeping inside some houses, who got caught in the rubble. The relief team has so far evacuated some people, but many people are still missing. The villagers say that they did not get any time to warn and everything happened suddenly.
Currently, electricity and mobile network in the affected areas are also disrupted, making it difficult to contact. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reviewed the situation and directed to provide all possible help to the affected. The administration is on alert to deal with the disaster and plans are also being made to seek the help of helicopters.
This incident again reminds how much threat remains during the monsoon in hilly states like Uttarakhand. Climate change and indiscriminate construction works have made the delicate ecology of the mountains more unstable, due to which such disasters are becoming common every year.
