New Delhi: Winter has gained momentum in the new year. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be severe winter in some parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A drop in temperature may be recorded in these states during the next 24 hours. This means that cold day conditions will prevail here for the next two days.

Cold has also increased in Rajasthan, due to which daily life has become disturbed. According to the IMD, Jaipur recorded a high of 7.2 degrees Celsius at 8:30 am on Wednesday, while Bikaner and Churu recorded 7 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius respectively. Severe cold continues in Jammu and Kashmir and the temperature has gone below zero in many areas. The surface of Dal Lake froze due to cold. According to the IMD report, at 8:30 am on Wednesday, Srinagar recorded -1.5°C, Gulmarg -2.4°C, Pahalgam -6°C, Banihal 0.4°C and Kupwara 0.4°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of dense fog in different areas of Punjab during late night and morning. Along with this, dense fog may occur in Haryana-Chandigarh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Sikkim till January 3. A warning has been issued for dense fog in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 6.

The national capital Delhi is also experiencing severe winter. Winds are blowing at the speed of 14 to 18 kilometers per hour in Delhi-NCR. The Meteorological Department says that the wind speed will gradually reduce to less than eight kilometers per hour by the evening. Mist or light fog is expected during the evening and night. The maximum temperature can be recorded around 18 and the minimum temperature can be around 9 degrees Celsius.
