But now this bill will not be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Because this bill is not in the revised list of Lok Sabha. Let us tell you that the government has also sent a copy of this bill to the MPs so that they can study it. Let us tell you that the winter session of Parliament is ending on December 20. If this bill is not presented on December 16, then the government will have only four days left. In such a situation, there seems to be little chance of discussion on this bill.
Let us inform that the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi had on December 12 approved the Constitutional Amendment Bill One Nation One Election to conduct simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. The Cabinet had approved two draft laws, one of which is the Constitution Amendment Bill related to simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, while the other bill is related to simultaneous elections for the three Union Territories having Legislative Assemblies.
One Constitution Amendment Bill pertains to simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, while the other Bill pertains to simultaneous elections to the three Union Territories having Legislative Assemblies. To pass a Constitution Amendment Bill, a two-thirds majority is required, while the second bill requires a simple majority in the House. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had expressed its commitment to this idea in its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
