New Delhi. Despite all the hard work and tempting promises, BJP has defeated Congress in the Haryana Assembly elections 2024. According to the trends and results, BJP government seems to be formed in Haryana. Till date, no party has been in power in Haryana for three consecutive terms. BJP has also closed this page of Haryana’s political history by achieving consecutive victories. The special thing is that in Haryana, the issue of identity of wrestlers and daughters and also the issue of farmers did not work for Congress!
Congress had made many tempting promises in its manifesto for Haryana. These included guarantee of MSP for farmers, conducting caste survey, promise of giving Rs 6000 every month to the elderly, disabled and women who have lost their husbands. Apart from this, Congress had also promised to re-implement the old pension scheme, give Rs 2000 every month to women aged between 18 to 60 years, 300 units of free electricity for every household and free treatment up to Rs 25 lakh. Congress had also promised the people of Haryana to keep the price of LPG cylinder at Rs 500, provide 2 lakh jobs to the youth and provide 100 yards of land and a 2-room house for Rs 3.5 lakh to the poor to build houses. Congress had also talked about increasing the creamy layer for OBC from 8 to 10 lakh during the Haryana Assembly elections.
Apart from this, Congress had also made the farmers’ movement and the movement of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia an issue in Haryana. Congress continuously alleged that 700 farmers had lost their lives during the farmers’ movement. All the promises of Congress and allegations made against BJP were rejected by the public in the Haryana Assembly elections. As a result, the BJP which had got 40 seats last time and had to form a coalition government, this time the people of Haryana gave it a clear majority in the Assembly. A major reason behind Congress’s promises not being implemented in Haryana could be that the government it formed by promising free schemes in Himachal Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka could not fully implement them. BJP had cornered Congress by raising the issue of wasteful expenditure in jobs. Apart from this, BJP also raised the issue of plight in Congress ruled states. On behalf of BJP, Amit Shah announced that if Haryana wins, the amount of Kisan Samman Nidhi will be increased from Rs 6000 to Rs 10000 annually. Apart from this, before the voting of Haryana Assembly elections, BJP also raised the issue of presenting the bill related to Waqf Board and getting it passed in the next session of Parliament. This also probably created problems for the Congress.
