Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that despite the promises of “Make in India” factory boom, the manufacturing record in the country is at a low level and youth unemployment is very high.
Questioning the effectiveness of the “Make in India” initiative, Gandhi said that the manufacturing in the country has come down to a low level of 14 percent of the economy since 2014.
He also pointed to the growing unemployment among the youth and double the increase in imports from China and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of focusing on slogans rather than real solutions.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi shared a video and wrote, “Make in India” promised the factory boom. Then why is the manufacturing record at the lower level, why is the young unemployment at a record high and why has imports more than doubled? Modi ji specializes in raising slogans, not a solution. Since 2014, the manufacturing sector has fallen by 14% of our economy. “
He criticized the current economic model of the country and said, “I met Shivam and Saif at Nehru Place in New Delhi, who were intelligent, skilled and full of possibilities, yet they did not get an opportunity to fulfill it. The truth is that we combine, imports, imports, but do not build. China benefits.”
He said that Prime Minister Modi has no new idea and has given up hope to increase India’s industries. He said that the important PLI scheme is also being closed quietly. Gandhi called for major changes to help Indian producers with honest reforms and financial assistance, and warned that if India does not build its industries, it will continue to buy from other countries.
The post reads, “Due to no new idea, Modi ji has surrendered. Even the much -transmitted PLI scheme has now been quietly withdrawn. India requires a fundamental change that empower millions of producers through honest reforms and financial assistance. We should stop becoming a market for others. If we do not build here, we will be buying those people who are building.”
The Make in India initiative was launched by the Prime Minister in September 2014 as a part of the broader group of nation building initiatives.
