Congress will intensify campaign demanding Amit Shah's resignation, will celebrate "Ambedkar Samman Week"

The Congress on Saturday said that after loudly raising the demand for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah for “insulting” Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar during the winter session of Parliament, it will now intensify its campaign by taking to the streets and in the coming week. Will be celebrated as “Ambedkar Honor Week”.

Party’s Organization General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said that party MPs and senior leaders will address press conferences on this subject in different cities of the country on 22 and 23 December and Ambedkar Samman March will be taken out in every district on 24 December.

The main opposition party will also reiterate its commitment to Ambedkar’s ideals in the Congress Working Committee meeting proposed next week in Belagavi. Venugopal posted on Twitter, “Our movement will continue to demand the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. We will fight against Manusmriti worshipers to protect the legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

He said that Congress will celebrate the coming week as Dr. Ambedkar Samman Week. He informed that all Congress MPs, senior leaders and Congress Working Committee (CWC) members will address press conferences in their constituencies and home districts across the country on December 22-23.

Venugopal said, “On December 24, we will take out Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March across the country and submit a memorandum to the President of India through district collectors demanding the resignation of Amit Shah.” “All Congress workers will garland Babasaheb’s statue, carry huge portraits of Babasaheb and carry placards displaying our key demands during the march,” he said.

According to Venugopal, “On December 26-27, we will hold an extended CWC session and a massive rally in Belagavi where our commitment to Ambedkar and his ideals will be reiterated.”

Congress media department head Pawan Khera told reporters, “All our MPs and Congress Working Committee members will address press conferences in 150 cities on December 22 and 23. The attack on the Constitution will be highlighted.” “We will continue to demand the resignation of the Home Minister,” he said.

Congress and several other opposition parties have alleged that Shah insulted Babasaheb during his address on Tuesday while replying to the two-day discussion in the Rajya Sabha on ’75 years of glorious journey of the Constitution of India’.

The main opposition party had also released a video excerpt of Shah’s address, in which the Home Minister can be heard taking a dig at the opposition and saying, “It has become a fashion now – Ambedkar, Ambedkar… itna naam agar.” Had we taken God’s help, we would have got heaven for seven births.” On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that the Congress always insulted Babasaheb and ensured that he lost the elections.
