Consumer files case against whitening cream, says no difference after use, fine of Rs 15 lakh imposed on company

Companies promoting any product have to take care that they can tell the features of their product only as per the set rules because if they are found wrong during the investigation, then action will be taken against them. A similar complaint was lodged in the Consumer Forum of Delhi in which a fine of Rs 15 lakh has been imposed on the company.

Bought cream for ₹79

A consumer had purchased a cream worth ₹79. The company selling the cream claimed that by applying this cream any person’s skin becomes fair. The consumer said that Emami’s promotion of ‘fairness cream’ is misleading as no such change is visible on the screen. The complainant said that what instructions have been given on the packaging and level of the product that if this cream is used continuously then the skin becomes fair. But the consumer did not perceive any such change.

However, the company complains that the consumer has been unable to prove that he has used it as per the given guidelines. But it has been decided that the company has not given proper guidelines on packaging in this regard, hence a fine of Rs 15 lakh has been imposed on the company.
