The Supreme Court on Friday refused to stay the lower court proceedings against former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad in the CBI land case.
A bench of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh asked the Delhi High Court to expedite the hearing on their petition to cancel the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR.
The apex court also granted Yadav exemption from appearance in the lower court in the case.
On May 29 last, the Delhi High Court said that there is no concrete reason to stop the proceedings.
The High Court issued a notice to the CBI on Yadav’s plea to cancel the agency’s FIR and adjourned the hearing for August 12.
The case is related to the appointments of Group ‘D’ in the western central region of Indian Railways in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh during Lalu Prasad’s Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009.
These appointments were reportedly made in exchange for the land given or transferred in the name of the family or colleagues of the RJD president.
