New Delhi. The Maharashtra government has today issued an important order giving the status of ‘Rajyamata’ to the cow. The main reason behind this decision has been said to be the importance of cow in Indian culture and the Vedic period. The order states that milk of desi cow is extremely suitable for human diet and it has a special place in Ayurvedic medicine, Panchgavya treatment system, and organic farming. The government has also mentioned various health and agricultural uses of cow milk, urine, and dung in this order. In Ayurveda, cow’s milk has been said to be extremely beneficial for the development of children. Also, this decision has been taken in view of the medicinal benefits of cow urine and the use of cow dung in organic farming.

Cultural and religious importance of cow
In India there is a tradition of worshiping cow as mother. The cow has been given a special place in Hinduism, and its milk, urine, and dung are considered sacred and are used in many religious and medical purposes. It is believed that all the gods and goddesses reside in the cow and due to this it is considered very important from the religious point of view. Concern over incidents of cow slaughter and cow smuggling
This decision of the Maharashtra government has come at a time when incidents of cow slaughter and cow smuggling are coming to light in different parts of the country. State governments are committed to taking strict action on these incidents, but these incidents have not been completely stopped. Recently, Mahtab Alam, accused of cow slaughter, was shot by the police in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, while a major police action was taken in Mirzapur on charges of cow slaughter. There, 10 policemen including the post incharge have been suspended and investigation is also going on against the SHO.
