Curfew continues in Sensitive areas of the city: Police under situation in Nagpur: Police

Violence erupted in Central Nagpur around 7:30 pm on Monday night and the police was stoned.

Officials said the violence spread after the rumor that a community religious book was burnt during a demonstration by a right -wing organization to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb.

34 policemen were injured in the violence. After this, curfew was imposed in sensitive areas of the city, which prevented the movement of people and vehicles.

According to a police press release, curfew is now effective in areas falling in Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakdganj, Pachpavali, Shanti Nagar, Sakkaradara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodhara Nagar and Kapil Nagar police station area.

The release said that during the curfew, the Deputy Commissioners of Police of the respective areas will take decisions about the movement of vehicles on the roads.

According to officials, 12 policemen, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police, were injured in the violence on Monday night. About 50 people have been arrested so far in connection with stone pelting and arson.
