Suresh Kalmadi
The ED’s closure report in the money laundering case related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games organizing the 2010 Commonwealth Games has been accepted by the Rousse Avnu Court. This decision has led to an end to allegations of money laundering in this 13 -year -old case. The court abolished the investigation of money laundering filed against former Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee (OC) chief Suresh Kalmadi, general secretary Lalit Bhanot and other accused.
Investigation going on for years closed
The court decided that during the investigation, no crime of money laundering was proved and for this reason the ED admitted to the closing report.
Special Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal said that the CBI has already acquitted the accused in the corruption case, on the basis of which the ED had started an investigation into money laundering. The court acknowledged the ED’s argument that the crime of money laundering has not been confirmed and hence there is no reason to advance the matter.
What did CBI accuse?
The CBI had alleged that the organizing committee had lost 30 crores due to illegal allocation of two important contracts for the Commonwealth Games. However, the CBI filed a closing report in the case in January 2014, stating that no objectionable evidence came out and the allegations could not be proved.
CBI recorded 19 FIR
Let us know that the Commonwealth Games (CWG) was held in Delhi from 3 to 14 October 2010. But even before this, the news of the collapse of the newly constructed pedestrian bridge near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main site of CWG, made headlines internationally. The event had changed the appearance of Delhi, but the Congress government led by Sheela Dixit evicted power. Every aspect of the beautification and sports management of the city was surrounded by allegations of mismanagement and irregularities, from improving street lighting to renovation of stadiums. The CBI had registered at least 19 FIRs. But in the last 15 years, the responsibility of ‘scam’ in any case could not be decided.
