Pakistan -backed hackers tried to carry out a cyber attack by targeting websites related to the Indian Army. But India’s strong cyber security system completely thwarted these efforts. The attack took place on 22 April amid increasing tension after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Indian intelligence sources, the Pakistan Hacker Group “IOK Hacker” (Internet of Khalifa) targeted the army’s public websites.
Hackers targeted Army Public Schools (APS) Srinagar and Ranikhet, Army Welfare Housing Organization (AWHO) database, and the placement portal of the Indian Air Force. These attacks included the websites, stealing data, and distributed Dinel of Service (DDOS) attacks on Srinagar’s APS portal. The attackers posted messages such as “site hacked” with inflammatory messages on websites and Pakistani flags.
India’s cyber security system immediately took action by finding out these attacks in real-time. The process of restoration was initiated by offline the affected websites, and no sensitive or operational network was damaged. “Our cyber security structure is strong, and we are committed to protect the digital infrastructure,” said an Indian Army official.
The attack is seen in response to the tough steps taken by India after the Pahalgam attack, such as the Indus Water Treaty suspension and the ban on 16 Pakistani YouTube channels. Cyber security experts have warned that Pakistan -backed groups, such as Transparent Tribes (APT36), can carry out future and sophisticated attacks. Cyber agencies of India are attentive to deal with these dangers.
