New Delhi. The hearing on Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea is going on in the Supreme Court. Supporting Kejriwal’s bail plea before the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan, his lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that his client’s passport is deposited in the court. In such a situation, he cannot flee abroad. Kejriwal is not a threat to society. Abhishek Manu Singhvi also argued in the court that the trial court and the Supreme Court had granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the case of arrest by the ED. He also said that there is no rule of arresting twice in the same case. During this, Justice Suryakant interrupted Singhvi and said that I am thinking, for how long should the bail plea be heard, does a normal person get such a long time.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi also said that in order to prevent Arvind Kejriwal from coming out of jail, he was arrested by the CBI. Singhvi said that Arvind Kejriwal was arrested 2 years after the case was filed. He also said that whenever Arvind Kejriwal was called for questioning, he always appeared. Singhvi told the court that there was no evidence against Arvind Kejriwal, only a statement. At the same time, the CBI said that Arvind Kejriwal can tamper with the evidence. He can also flee abroad. However, the investigating agency said that a charge sheet has been filed in the trial court. Also, the investigation is in its final stage. The CBI has accused Arvind Kejriwal of avoiding questions and destroying electronic evidence.
Earlier, the Supreme Court has said many times that bail is the rule and sending to jail is the exception. The Supreme Court had earlier granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal for campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections. Arvind Kejriwal had also got bail from the Supreme Court in the case of arrest by ED in the liquor scam case. Before this bail, the CBI had arrested him and interrogated him on remand. Due to this, Arvind Kejriwal could not come out of Tihar Jail. Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted bail to liquor scam accused like Sanjay Singh, K. Kavita, Manish Sisodia and Vijay Nair. However, the Supreme Court had recently refused to grant interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the case of arrest by the CBI and sought answers from the investigating agency and the accused.
