New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has abolished a tradition in the state assembly for decades. In fact, in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Muslim MLAs were given two hours time to offer prayers to the juma on Friday. During this time, the proceedings of the assembly were stopped. Now the government of Himanta Biswa has banned the time received to offer namaz to Muslim MLAs. After this decision, now on Friday, the proceedings of the House will continue without any break. At the same time, Muslim MLAs are opposing this decision of the government.
Assembly Speaker Vishwajit Daari had proposed that on Friday too, the proceedings of the House should be run smoothly like other days of the week. This proposal was placed before the Committee of the House which was approved. Chairman Biswajit Daari said that this big step has been taken under the secular principles of the Constitution. This will not waste the time of MLAs. At the same time, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has welcomed this decision. Let us tell you that this tradition started in 1937 by Syed Sadullah of the Muslim League. On the other hand, Muslim MLAs are angry with this decision.
AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam objected to the decision to eliminate the break for Namaz. He said that this number is a decision imposed on the basis of force. He said that the number of Muslim MLAs in the current time is 30. All Muslim MLAs had protested against the abolition of this tradition of decades old, but the government has a greater number of strengths of MLAs, due to which our demand was ignored.
