The Delhi government is planning to increase their monthly pension by Rs 500 to provide additional financial assistance to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. According to sources, the Social Welfare Department has drafted the proposal and handed over to the cabinet, which has now sent it to the Finance Department for further evaluation. After the approval by the Finance Department, the proposal will return to the cabinet for final approval.
The Delhi government is planning to increase the pension by Rs 500, which will benefit at least 5.3 lakh senior citizens and 1.2 lakh disabled people. After amending the scheme, senior citizens aged 60-69 years will get pension of Rs 2500 per month.
Additional Rs 500 per month was being given to the beneficiaries of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and minority communities, which is now expected to be Rs 1000 if the scheme is amended.
Under the pension scheme, people with 40 to 60 percent disability earlier used to get Rs 2,500 per month, which will now be Rs 3,000 under the revised scheme. Individuals with more than 60 percent disability are currently getting Rs 5,000 per month, which is now expected to be Rs 5,500 per month under the revised scheme.
To qualify for pension schemes for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, applicants must be a resident of Delhi for at least five years and have a Delhi address Aadhaar card. The annual family income of the applicant should be less than Rs 1 lakh. Also, the applicant should not get any other pension or financial assistance. Pension schemes for senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Delhi were finally revised in November 2024.
