Delhi Police said that five people, including three women and two men, died on Friday when a part of a roof of a room of Dargah Sharif Patte Shah near Humayun’s tomb fell.
According to the police, 11 people were rescued from the rubble and admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Soon after the building collapsed, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire department and local police teams started a search operation.
The scene near Humayun’s tomb was immediately surrounded to ensure security and assistance in rescue work. The officials said that NDRF personnel carried out a search operation inside the Dargah complex to investigate the people trapped in the debris.
Soon after the incident, the employees and emergency reactions of the fire department were also present at the scene to assist in operation. The Delhi police said, “Eleven people have been rescued from the scene and they have been taken to a nearby hospital. The search operation is still on.” The area around the dargah has been sealed, as the structural engineer and investigator are investigating the site.
