Delhi Elections: Income Tax Department creates control room to curb black money

The Income Tax Department on Wednesday notified a “24×7 control room and complaint monitoring cell” where the general public can report cases of illegal inducements such as cash being distributed during the Delhi Assembly elections.

The Election Commission on Tuesday announced the election schedule for the 70-member Assembly, under which voting will take place on February 5 and counting of votes on February 8.

The Income Tax (Investigation) branch of the department said in a public notice that it has opened a 24×7 control room at the Civic Center in Central Delhi and has also issued a toll-free number 1800111309.

The notice said that any person can inform the department about suspicious movement or distribution of cash, gold, silver and precious metals etc. in the National Capital Territory of Delhi in connection with the Delhi Assembly elections.

It says that the identity of the person giving the information will be kept secret. The address of the control room as well as various landline and mobile numbers are also mentioned in the notice.

The investigation wing of the department notifies such control rooms in each election-bound State under the measures issued by the Election Commission aimed at curbing the use of black money, which is used to influence and bribe voters, Due to which there is disruption in the level playing field.
